Migrate To Public Cloud

Introduction

Besides the executive dashboards, Intersight gives fine-grained technical tools to develop and execute various container platform, public cloud, and on-prem plans to reduce expenses and improve overall performance and application availability.


Create a Migration Plan

  Use the credentials for Cisco Intersight provided by your instructor to login to Intersight if you’ve been logged out.

  Use the steps below to create a new plan for migrating to the public cloud.

  1. Under the Optimize tab click on Plan
  2. Click on New Plan

  Select a plan type as seen below

  1. Click on Migrate to Cloud

  Select virtual machines to migrate as seen below

  1. Click on Data Centers
  2. Click Select all (2)
  3. Click Next: Where To Migrate

  Select where to migrate as seen below

  1. Select the AWS account number seen in the image below
  2. Click Next: Region

  Select a region as seen below

  1. Select aws-US West (N. California) AWS
  2. Click Run Plan

  Review the migration plan results

Notice there is over a $16,000 per month savings by analyzing the workloads and picking the most efficient cloud platforms to migrate to. Over $190,000 a year for ~100 Virtual machines. Take some time and dig into the details over what is specifically being recommended by looking at the Lift & Shift Actions Tab and the Optimized Actions Tab

  You can also quickly look at the difference in the machine mapping with just a Traditional Lift & Shift and an Optimized Migration.
